Breaux Vineyards
This past weekend, I visited Breaux Vineyards in Northern VA.

We tasted 13 white, red, and dessert wines.

We also had a picnic lunch, toured the winery production facility…and explored the vineyard grounds.

Of the 13 wines we tasted, my favorite was the Nebbiolo. A red wine! Can you believe it??? I found a red wine that doesn’t make me want to hurl! This is a bold Italian varietal with an earthy flavor of violets, licorice, plum, and smoky cherry. The Nebbiolo grape has a very thin skin so the tannins were present, but not overpowering. Perhaps that is why I preferred the Nebbiolo over other reds I’ve tasted. It sells for $48 per bottle and was noted as “In demand in the UK and a favorite at the London International Wine Fair.”

Of all the Nebbiolo wines, the 2008 Nebbiolo Ice was the BEST. And everyone at the wine bar said the same thing! It is a very light colored red wine that is made from the frozen Nebbiolo grape. It has a floral scent and a fruity flavor. And boy was it delicious! Because of the labor intensity and the long fermentation period, any Ice wine can cost $60 or more per bottle. Breaux Vineyards sold their version of the Nebbiolo Ice for $24. It was so good, I bought two!! And now I have a reason an excuse to drink one all by myself! LOL!
Sometime this summer, we’re supposed to visit a few more VA Vineyards. More hidden gems right in my own back yard. I’m so excited!

Have you read the Fabulous Financials comment policy lately?

Have you tried a blush red, not a White Zinfandel. I think you would like Concannon Vineyards Blush.

Sounds great. We’re going back to the King Family Winery in Charlottesville this year so I can stock up on my beloved Meritage. Delish!

Never been to a vineyard – I’m not much of a wine drinker, although I’m trying to get there. I stick with moscato and riesling for the most part. If I run across the Nebbiolo, I’m definitely going to try it.

I’ll have to check that one out. Since I’ve first visited Bluemont Vineyard in VA I havent been able to bring myself to try the 26 or so others. Bluemont is beautiful plus they have a delicious Vidal Blanc that I bet you will love. Sweet, Crisp, just perfect.

Cool thanks for the share – I’ll definitely have to look out for that one in the markets and give it a try. :)
