Fun and Frugal Valentine’s Day Ideas

All week, I’ve been searching the ‘net trying to find last minute gift ideas and fun activities for Valentine’s Day.  Although I’m not in a relationship, I still try to find ways to make Valentine’s Day special for my BabyGirl.  And guess what?  I found so many great ideas!  Here are a few of them:

CUTE

Make a treasure hunt for your loved one. Start by mailing or e-mailing him
the first clue. Then leave clues all over the house, yard, car or his office
telling him where to find the next clue. End the hunt by making a picnic in
the back yard or a park. Use your imagination and
have fun. The simple things are the ones people remember.

FRUGAL

- If you don’t have money to go out, have a picnic on the floor at home. Use some
candles and lay a soft blanket on the floor. Put on some soft music and
have a romantic Valentine’s dinner on the floor. Use some white Christmas
lights for additional romantic lighting!

- Don’t forget to stock up on Valentine’s cards and other things for next
year on February 15 when they’re all marked down.

CHEAP

Celebrate Valentine’s Day AFTER Valentine’s Day. Everything is half off.

WACKY

Heart attack: Cut paper hearts out of wrapping paper or use whatever paper and
colors you have and tape them onto the door of your someone special. Do this
when the person doesn’t know you are there. Then ring the door bell
or knock, then run and hide.  Watch their face light up!
You can leave cookies and or a homemade Valentine card saying, “You’ve
just been given a heart attack because I love you.”

SINGLE WITH KIDS

Give the kids a special Valentine’s dinner. Set the table with a red
tablecloth, white napkins, elegant wine type glasses and nice plates. You
could even get colored plates from the dollar store. Serve sparkling apple
or grape juice, and put the food on the plates very nicely. Kids need to
know they are special too.

What a cute post with fun ideas. I’m always amazed when people think they can’t celebrate Valentine’s Day because they don’t have a significant other.

I did splurge and send my mom flowers as a token of my love/appreciation, because she helps me a lot with my daughter and won’t accept anything from me. We’re having a special girls’ lunch tomorrow (me, my daughter, grandma), which we’ve done on Valentine’s Day since my daughter was two.

I do do the buying special dishes thing because it is inexpensive and cheap, and you’re right; it does make the little ones feel special. I know my daughter will come home with a homemade valentine for me, so I’m going to attempt to make one for her, and I’ll also surprise her with balloons from the Dollar Store. And along with our special dinner tonight on the cheap plates, I buy us inexpensive flowers for our table. The girl’s only 5, but she already loves flowers!

We mailed out a few cards to special people (grandparents, a few friends, her godmother, etc.), and I always buy all of our greeting cards in advance so we’re ready, but I usually only stock up for a few months ahead at a time. That’s a great suggestion to buy them for next year, now. Thanks for all the other good ideas!

I’m going to a baby shower on v-day. It’s a girl so I’m wondering if it’ll have a hearts theme. I thought about getting something for myself (I’m single) but that usually revolves around something sweet and I’m trying to cut back. Plus my birthday is in 10 days so maybe I’ll save my self treats for then.
