I Opened a New Vanguard Account

It’s official!  I have a non-retirement investment account with Vanguard.

Here are my thoughts on the opening process…

FAB:

Opening a new account took all of 10 minutes, then another 5 or so to register for online access.  I spent most of the time doing silly things because I’m anal.  You know, really important stuff like:

  • Choosing three questions and answers I could remember.  Who knows the name of the hospital their father was born? Sheesh!
  • Selecting my logon security picture.  I could never choose just ANY ole’ picture.  It had to be fabulous.  Then I had to name it!  LOL

There are sooooooooooo many investment options to choose from.  When the list came up to select what I wanted (of course, I’d already done my research and made up my mind), I felt like a kid in the candy store with $3,000 to spend! LOL

I love this page because it allows you to review their “core funds” based on your goals and risk tolerance.  After selecting the fund of my choice, I couldn’t help but notice that No Load + Low Expense Ratio = FABULOUS.  Compared to the industry average, it’s SUPER fabulous.

UNFAB:

Now that the account is open, I have to wait 10 days for the linked account to be verified before my account can be funded.  Why does it take so friggin long??????????

All future contributions made via online transfer from the linked account will take ‘up to’ 2 days to post. *sigh*  With current technology, online transfers should be instant.

Single Ma’s plan to nix the UNFAB:

After everything is verified and functioning properly,

I do and I thought I’d chosen my funds carefully. I do have a Roth IRA, and four other regular accounts set up for retirement. And despite the continued descent, I’m pleased my account and Vanguard. Welcome.
