Teens, Grads, and Historical Moments

This is my final weekend with BabyGirl before I send her off to spend the entire summer with both of her grandparents. Thursday is the last day of school and she’s boarding a plane on Friday morning. Thanks to my mom, she has a job lined up. And thanks to her dad’s mom, she will attend church every Sunday. Yea man, just what she needs - money and Jesus. LOL!

We spent the weekend primping, shopping, cleaning, and packing. I’ll miss her like crazy, but we’re both looking forward to the time apart. By the time she returns, she will be 16 years old and entering the 11th grade. She will have one week to rest before the beginning of cheerleading tryouts/practice, Delta GEMS kick off, and pre-course meetings for three IB classes. Busy, busy, busy. Gotta prevent the teen’s idle mind, better known as the devil’s playground. Yessiree!

And a historical moment that made the tiny hairs on my arms stand at attention. The first African American to win the nomination for a major political party. Wow! Yes. We. Can.

Prior to Obama’s victory speech, check out the love shared between the presidential candidate husband and wife team - a pound and a smack on the azz. HA HA that’s wassup! LOL!

BabyGirl and I discussed the meaning of this monumental event. I was very surprised proud to learn that she and her friends had been following the primaries, debates, and political controversy. It was interesting to listen to her perspective. The lil chic is smarter than I give her credit for sometimes. But among other things, I was also surprised to learn that she recognizes the importance of this moment in history, but if she was old enough to vote, she would have been a Clinton supporter. Not based on merit, but because she’s a woman. Ha!

Gotta love my kid.

I just watched the video and saw the moment for the first time. It gave me goose bumps. The national media is hilarious. I know one of those reporters has a teenage relative who could have given them more information on what the ‘pound’ means.

Wow @your mom hooking BG up with a job! Go G-Ma! Now BG is going to come back at the end of the summer enriched & enlightened LOL….ok bad joke, i digress….It’s good that both sets of grandparents live in the same area (or state?) that way there isn’t much travel in between involved.

Being a democrat who has largely supported Obama as president for years now, I’m very pleased to see him taking the nomination. I am white, and a lot of people place the race card when it comes to Obama. Me? I play the age card. It’s time we got someone young and fresh into la Casa Blanca who understands the strife of the younger generation - the future of this country. I wholeheartedly hope he pounds McCain into the pavement in this election. The last thing we need is ANOTHER Republican who is older than the dirt in Texas pontificating about how good war is for the country and supporting big business instead of the little people.

As to the fist bump… All I have to say is that I’m glad Obama and the Mrs. aren’t trying to “fit” the mold and changing their own little quirks and habits. It was heartwarming to see REAL PEOPLE doing the things that real people do in everyday life.

Wow, gone for a whole summer. I can’t ever imagine my kids being gone that long… then again the oldest is only 2! Thanks for the mention.

I don’t mean to be a jerk but Obama’s only 1/2 African American. LOL!
