Red Shoes and Business Attire

I have a charcoal gray suit with very faint pin-stripe lines. The color of the pin-stripes? Why, none other than red of course! LOL So in typical Single Ma fashion, I was determined to push the conservative envelope and went on the hunt for a pair of red heels. And today was my lucky day…

Anne Klein red slingbacks

The color is actually “rouge” and it’s just what I needed. Ha! Like I “need” another pair of new shoes, but you know what I mean! LOL I’m sure you also know by now that I heart Anne Klein sling backs? Not only are these the perfect color, but they’re also low key, casual, and comfy (looking). I’ll have to wait until they get here to say for sure.

Oh, and they’re cheap affordable too!! I copped these babies on Amazon for $23.69! I didn’t forget about the horrid red shoes I bought on Amazon last year, but I’m willing to take my chances again - only because they’re AKs. Which reminds me…

A fabulous reader sent an email to ask me “what does your wardrobe look like?” I thought it was one of the most interesting questions I’ve ever been asked because she might be surprised by my answer. LOL But she isn’t just interested in MY closet. She also wants advice on how a new graduate entering the business world can build a functional wardrobe on a budget. Because I love y’all like fam, I’ll respond to her questions in a blog post this week.  So stay tuned!

What do you think about wearing red shoes to work?

Work to achieve, not to acquire.
And as always, BE FABULOUS!

Yes!!! I can’t wait for that post. I need wardrobe tips also. I am a t-shirt and jeans gal. My sisters clown me on how I can’t accessorize or “match”. LOL! I can remember them trying to explain to me that pairing up a black and white checkered dress with red pumps was the ish (Sorry but at that moment those two did NOT match…lol!).

So I got the budget part down (Ross and BCF!!). It’s the wardrobe I have issues with.

    :-D

    BCF? [-SM]

    stimulus check at work….lol

Yes, ma’am! But then again, I had to shell out $500 for retainers this morning, so it’s a wash. [-SM]

Rock those shoes! I wear a black suit with white pinstripes with red shoes. I got the job! On my first day one of the ladies on the selection committee said “Oh yes, I remember her! She wore gorgeous red shoes. I knew I liked her.” Several other ladies also commented on my shoes. One lady told everyone I wore red. You can’t go wrong with red shoes.

    *duh* Thanks! [-SM]

Those are some hawt shoes!! I’m very envious; I can’t wear heals that high anymore :o(

Anything red is a yes for me!!!! Red is my favorite color. The only thing I do not wear is red lipstick. I work in the health care field so I am always on the look out for cute scrubs and comfy shoes. My favorite pair of work shoes are red patent leather Sanita clogs. Comfy , cute & worth the money!!! Have to take care of my feet!!!

Beautiful. You are an inspiration (or bad influence!) because I clicked over and was SO tempted to purchase some. But 3 inch heels make me feel like such a giant since I’m already taller than average.

Looking forward to the wardrobe post!

    Red’s the new black :)

I love red shoes, it adds that pop and bit of flare to an otherwise “standard” suit….

Now you know I will red shoes, zebra shoes, leopard shoes, etc. Wearing conservative clothing = I know how to dress for the occasion, but my shoes and accessories speak to my personality. Love it or leave it!

And I don’t need another pair of red shoes!

  12. Meagan, 13 May 2008, 8:35

Appropriate for the work enviornment, cute and inexpensive. Good choice!

  13. nofearingthemoney, 13 May 2008, 8:48

Great shoes. Perfectly appropriate for the office. The cut and the shape are conservative, so the color is the personality and the pop.

I have some red shoes in exactly the shade of your new AK’s and I wear them to work all the time. I think as long as they are not that horrible tacky hooker red, they give you an edge, far more interesting that black or brown!!

  15. Tootie, 13 May 2008, 9:04

I’m like Carrie from Sex in the City - a cute shoe goes with anything regardless of the color. So in my opinion - red is a neutral just like yellow blue and green. As long as the shoe is flyy you can rock them with anything. Can I just say though, that flip flops are not the new loafer. :)

  16. Brenda, 13 May 2008, 9:19

You’re a bad influence ;) I HAD to have these, so I bought them in both black and the red. Too bad they didn’t have them in Navy, or they’d be mine too!

Hey hey now, I’m just the messenger. The devil made ya buy TWO pair! LOL [-SM]

I obviously don’t think that red in a professional environment is forbidden. I think that it adds something to an otherwise drab ensemble.

    Thanks for the find!

Nice shoes, and the suit sounds beautiful… I was thinking “wait a minute, didn’t she post about buying red shoes before?” and then I saw the mention of the other pair!
My office is very casual, and on Fridays I’ve been known to wear a pair of red sneakers, does that count??!!

Even with a teenager who ONLY wears sneakers, I don’t think I’ve seen a pair of red ones - ever. [-SM]

I’ve worked in a number of conservative business environments, and the dress codes generally dictate the shape of the shoe, not its color. Those shoes wouldn’t push much of an envelope anywhere I’ve been because they’re closed-toe. Nearly every dress code in the places I’ve worked have said no open-toe shoes. The only questionable thing about your shoes would be the sling-backs, because some of the places I’ve worked have also said no open backs, and sling-backs are close cousins.

I’ve never understood why some women get so interested in shoes. I know that they do, but it’s never made sense to me. But then, it’s not like everyone has to be interested in the same things. And I guess the more of us there are who just don’t get it, the more shoes there are for the people who like them….

I’m sure you’re interested in something that would make me give you the side eye. *shrug* Different strokes for different folks. [-SM]

I LOVE RED SHOES!!! and it doesn’t matter what shade of red!!! well I won’t wear cherry red.. but you know what i mean!! LOL

Wow.. advice for her like my mother had given me.. buy staples.. pieces that can mix and match :) so although you are wearing the same thing NOBODY will ever know because its coordinated differently.. buy a new piece to coordinate with your current pieces as you can afford it.

    Looking forward to your post!

The sling backs are cute………I mainly own black shoes…….but I think with my new job, I’ll add some color to my wardrobe……..and I’d never given any consideration to purchasing shoes from Amazon……..thanks for the mentioning, I’m definitely gonna look into it…..

I shop at Amazon all the time, but this is only my 2nd attempt at buying shoes. The first time didn’t go so well, but I don’t blame Amazon. It was just a bad shoe sold by Tar’jay. Think of Amazon as a big ole’ online mall that sells EVERYTHING. Give it a try, you might like it. [-SM]

I don’t work in a “corporate” setting, but red shoes?? You could never go wrong! I know they’ll look fantastic with the suit or pretty much anything.

  22. Beauty, 14 May 2008, 9:57

I’ll admit this is a newly acquired mindset for me. I used to skate the corporate/sexy/stylish line, but I’m learning by modeling myself after execs to dress the part and still eb stylish. So now I’m with Serenity 23, I aim at conservative attire with stylish accessories.

  23. Kaiya, 14 May 2008, 15:39

Please.. Please rock the red shoes! I just copped a pink, not toO bright, and not too dark pair to wear with a gray and white striped wrap dress. It needed a splash of color. :)

    BCF = Burlington Coat Factory

Wearing red shoes to work and with business attire can and should be done as often as possible. I’ve done it before and will do it again. And, just this morning I saw one of my colleagues in some red high heeled pumps! Great.

Red shoes to the office? *psht* Gurl, all day! I work in the marketing department. They can’t stop me. I INTERVIEWED in a pair of baby pink stilettos (charcoal gray suit w/ pink pinstripes, pink dress shirt). To date I’ve worn purple suede knee boots (with green dress on Fat Tuesday), yellow patent cork-heeled slingbacks and black & white oxfords on a 4.5″ stacked heel. Even though I love my black patent Enzo mary janes, I am live and flavorful and will not be stifled :-)

Sorry you had a bad experience buying red shoes. You needed some of this in your life: http://cossiebaby.buzznet.com/user/photos/dead-ringer/?id=35316321
Found them online for $39 and we all know Via Spiga pushes that $100 envelope. I love them, and they’re a dead ringer for a pair of Manolos.
