My boyfriend lives in DC and I went to visit him...Based on this blog, I went to Judiths. They are ok but Im comparing them to a place I lived a while back with a lot of Dominicans. There is no one named Francine there...at least not when I asked. Im trying Claudia's next time. Judith's was average with the blow out method. Your hair will be straight but not in a major way or anything...I used to be able to sleep without wrapping my hair and it was all flowy and blowing in the wind like what the media markets to us as hot. They can do a blow out. It's not superb but it is a blowout nonetheless. I give them a 7.

Thank you for this posting. Like the rest, my hats are off to Dominican Stylists. Yet, I wanted to ask you about special accommodations for women like me. I cover my hair for religious reasons, but I like my hair to be healthy and look nice, too. Can you tell me if any of the salons above have set-ups where I could get my hair cut and styled in privacy (without men around or windows)?

thanks for the great tips! I just moved from Atlanta and am looking for a touch and go concept salon in the NOVA area? After a roller set, you take the rollers out and style yourself. Much cheaper prices... perm, trim and color on edges cost about $50.

please respond if you've found this concept in this area.
thanks!

There is one more that I'd recommend in Adam's Morgan and that is Giovanni's. Although I hate those small old fashioned dryers that you sit under (I prefer the really hot high powered ones) I love the way the women in the first two seats do hair. I often find that at Judith's they don't straighten my hair well enough at the roots but that's because I like it SUPER straight at the roots, allows me to go longer without a relaxer and still look good. My all time favorite is Luisa's in Silver Spring. I live in DC but go there EVERY week because Druselda can hook it up. My hair is permed and colored and somewhat fine but still manages to take the heat without breaking. Not cheap though $40 for wash and set. Not like NY where I'm from.
