When Your Reputation Precedes You

I haven’t been in the office since December 18th but good ish is abound in my absence. Apparently the deal I settled is still a hot topic around the water cooler. Real talk. Received a call from a work buddy and the weird conversation went a lil something like this:

::ring ring::

SM: I know you’re not blowing up my private line. This better be good.

Her: *laughing* No, this is serious.

SM: *a lil concerned* What’s wrong?

Her: So how much was it?

SM: What?

Her: How much was IT?

SM: How much was WHAT?

Her: Oh, you haven’t received it yet?

SM: Received what?

Her: Is your BB on?

SM: *feeling like the 3 Stooges* I’m about to hang up on you. You’re asking more questions than you’re answering!

Her: Check your BB and call me back.

After wading through all the crap waiting for me next week, this is what I found…

[from my boss' boss]
[dated Dec 21st]
[subject line: "Season's Greetings"]

Hi [insert my gub'ment name]: I didn’t get an opportunity to see you in person over these last hectic weeks. However, I didn’t want to wait any longer to let you know how appreciative I am of the hard work you’ve done at the [insert name of organization], particularly with the [insert reference to politically sensitive project]. I have a letter of appreciation from [insert head of organization] and on-the-spot cash award for you, that I’d hoped to present in person. I’ll be happy to pass it along the next time we see each other…but the money should show up very soon (the good stuff).

Thanks for your valuable contributions.

Enjoy the season.

Regards,

[insert corp. sig.]

Well dang! I knew it was big, but I didn’t know it was THAT big. Too bad I won’t be in the office until the 7th. Things will probably have settled down by then. I’ll miss out on the real kudos, but it’s nice to know they think I’m the ish. LOL!

Still haven’t seen any of “the good stuff” though. :-(

Congratulations!!!! You know it’s that acknowledgement that I love – sometimes even more than the money! I think that’s why I enjoy doing volunteer work. It just does something for me!

      Congratulations again!

Congratulations! Your employer knows how to show appreciation for great performance. At the rate your career is going you’ll hit your 6 figure net worth much sooner than your estimate.

I should have written 7 figure net worth. I was referring to your 12 year net worth goal. Sadly math is not my best subject but it seems certain that you will attain that 7 figure # before year 12.
