I need to start writing down my personal goals. This is a good idea. What is wrong with Verizon?

Lawd, I am tired just reading those.

The only ones I can help with are the LLC and the EIN. I did all that in about a week with the help of a lawyer-friend. I’ll post on that soon.

I look forward to seeing how you do all this bidness, especially the accountant.

Single Ma - wow!! Well, as evidence will show - whatever you put on the blog - you do. You are always straight forward and make the goals S.M.A.R.T. I also love the idea of the revocable trust. Learning what I have about wills from friends and family and working at the 9to5, revocable trusts are the way to go, IMO.

Also, love the idea about Fabulous Financials. You are truly an inspiration and thank you for always being straight up with your readers. Your posts this week have kicked my butt into PF overdrive.

    Happy New Year.

Hey SM (and all others with college-bound kids)!

Just wanted to let you know about a website that provides free test prep/test strategy prep. A grad student friend of mine was working on this site a few years back at Penn.State and it has come a long ways. I used it in the interim between my Prince.ton.Re.view courses for the GRE (I know BabyGirl is taking the SAT) and it really helped me get started. Besides the SAT prep, they have an ACT option on the site as well.

    The website is:
    http://number2.com

I hope it is as useful to others as it was to me. And no. They did not pay me to write this :-) If I come across any other test prep resources I will be sure to let you know.

Find at least 3 ‘hidden’ scholarship opportunities

    Try this one: http://gmsp.org/

It’s a full ride scholarship that pays up through a PhD. I love it!!

I am writing my SMART and To Do lists, but I may whittle them down to 5 each just so I don’t feel overwhelmed. As I tick those 10 off, I’ll add the next 10 and so on. I also plan to steal a few of yours since I great minds think alike!

Uh…Can you throw Northwestern University in there. Can you tell I am a little partial. =)

You have great goals for 2008! I’ll be keeping up with you.

(aka Samantha) This list is a very good idea…it’s along the lines of the new Morgan Freeman movie that is coming out..the one about the “Bucket List” things you want to do before you pass. I love this idea and have both a “bucket list” and “to do list for ‘08″

You don’t need a lawyer or an account to get an employee identification number (EIN) from the IRS. You can do it in about 5 minutes or less online via the IRS site. Very simple.

  13. Single Ma, 4 January 2008, 15:30

@ Jennifer - First I’m going to say welcome. So glad you found my blog. Please stop by more often.

    Now…

Since it’s obvious that you haven’t been here before or attempted to read this post in its entirety, I’ll be nice. Honey, your comment adds no value and makes no sense in the context of this post.

When one owns a business, there are many reasons to have a lawyer and an accountant. Getting an EIN is brainless, no surprise there. But I assume you’re also smart enough to do your own tax planning, estate planning, provide your own legal advice, maybe even represent yourself in court. Now if you think all of that is “very simple”, then have at it. Good for you! But I’d rather take my chances with an educated, trained, licensed professional.

    Single Ma,
For the Practice SAT, our church contacted Kaplan Learning and they set up a practice SAT session for the teenagers at church. This was a full SAT exam including the written portion. The Kaplan rep scored the exams and brought them the following week. This was FREE to all who attended. The only “catch” is when you receive the results they give their “presentation” on how to better the scores.

We have many of the same things on the “To Do List”..so of course I will be checking to see if they get accomplished..hehe retyping mine here as a form of reinforcement.

Determine exactly what is needed to retire by age 55 the retirement calculators confuse me or I just get lazy…I have help from a military ret. check and if work for at least 8 more years for decent pay $38K outside of ret check should get me there

Exploring men-me too, I have to socialize more, I’m a home body by nature… I’m considering joining a dating service like say match.com as I know more than three couples who met there, comedy shows, jazz clubs etc.

Start blogging my sisterlock journey and maybe a blog on finances so I can stop email friends and family financial tidbits, news

I need to eat healthier, meditate and exercise more regularly-got lazy in only 6 months off active duty

I’ve even considered volunteering at a local Women’s shelter..I wanted to get dave ramsey financial peace university kits and facilitating but I was told to do a proposal and fax it in,
then a lead came about doing this on the local military installation so I might be doing it there instead..
