Excellent post. Left an employer once without the fund and it was harrowing. Learned from the experience. Now I'm working on it.

Even working on the fund, completely changed my attitude at work. I don't stress about stuff happening.

Excellent post and congratulations on the Wiki reference:-)

As usual, you have a way of slicing right to the heart of the issue. I had not thought about the FU fund vs. the emergency fund in quite that way. Food for thought.

Re, the car, not to worry Ma, if it was really all that important the keys would already be in my pocket.

WHOA, WOW, and HA!! I didn't expect this post to generate so much discussion. Very interesting. Glad to know I'm not the only one that has thought about saying "FU!" on the C.S.S.

@ stacey - Let's just say I'd have to be REEEEEEEEEAL comfortable and I have a LOOOOOOOOONG way to go. LOL

@ miguel - confident people with their finances in order are usually the top performers.

IMO, the FU fund is different from my emergency fund. The latter is in preparation for things *outside* of my control. The former is for a spare of the moment whim when *I* have chosen to do something that would otherwise be considered irresponsible.

Like that $120,000 car you can obviously afford, deserve, and is loooong overdue. Go ahead and buy your dream wheels before it's too late...old man. You only live once. :-)

@ miniducky/jane - LOL @ the office space references. The producers of that movie were right on point with reality.

@ bk diva - I 'hope' she was just kidding. If not, don't let her knock your hustle. It's obvious she cares more about her dept than your professional development. That would be my cue to start looking for another gig.

@ all - mad money, go to hell money, need a vacation fund, whatever you prefer to call it...add it to your financial priority list because you never know when you may need it.
