One United Bank Screen Shot — Can You Find The Error?

As mentioned in my rant yesterday about One United Bank, here’s a screen shot of the online savings account when you first login.

[screen shot removed]

Can you find the misspelled word?

Keep in mind, this is a BANK that wants you to trust them with YOUR money.

They tout themselves as being “The First Black-Owned Internet Bank.”

*sigh* I’m embarrassed…

If you’re looking for a high yield savings account, sign up for ING Direct using a referral link to earn $25 with an initial deposit of $250. That’s an immediate 10% return. Then once you have an account, you can refer up to 25 people for an additional $10 each.

Honestly no. The writing is too small. Sorry. :(

  2. Single Ma, 26 July 2006, 5:46

Hmm, let me see if I can fix that.

  3. Tired of being broke, 26 July 2006, 5:51

Oh hellzzz No. They need spell check quick.

It is too small to read. So what did I do? I went to their website yes. Yes I did.

There is a button to view online banking demo. So I did the demo, and the first thing I saw was that word. Come on! None of their employess see that.

It’s a damn shame, cuz the word is not difficult to spell.

  4. mapgirl, 26 July 2006, 5:56

Yep. I saw it. Right at the top.

  5. Tired of being broke, 26 July 2006, 6:01

And there I go with my bad spelling too. Maybe I should go work at One United. LOL

  7. Single Ma, 26 July 2006, 6:47

Dang, no luck in fixing the screen shot. I don’t know how. ;-( I’m surprised I was able to post the lil smidget of it.

@ tired/mapgirl - so you saw it too huh? Isn’t that a plum shame!

Don’t reveal the word, yet. I want to see if the error is obvious or if I’m just anal. LOL

If you can’t see the screen shot, go here for the demo and click “OneUnited Online Demo.”

    @ knm - LMAO!

  8. Kira, 26 July 2006, 7:02

Man, I don’t see anything.. my English teacher mom would be so disappointed…

  9. Flexo, 26 July 2006, 7:35

Took a while, but I found it. I guess it wasn’t obvious for me, but there’s no excuse for typos on a corporate site that must have been tested for a long time before put into production.

  10. KNM5683, 26 July 2006, 7:59

It took me a minute, because it was so small. But I just blew up the picture… I saw it spelled correctly at first…and then… WTF?? I don’t want one of those! Why? Because that’s not a word!

  11. Single Ma, 26 July 2006, 8:23

    LMAOOOOOOO

I know right. Of all words, how could you mess up that one? Makes you wonder where they found their web developer? Their customer service reps? The people that handle your savings? Manage your investments?!! Is there any QA review at all? LMAO!!

I bet they won’t hire a person with misspelled words on their resume and I don’t want a bank with misspelled words (typo sounds like an excused oversight) on their website! No thank you!

KNM you are cracking me up! LOL

  12. SavvySunshine, 26 July 2006, 8:30

Took me a minute, but I found it. Thanks for the clue, KNM. Hello! How did they miss that? I totally agree Flexo.

  13. IRA, 26 July 2006, 8:38

Yup, saw it. You’re not being anal.

  14. KNM5683, 26 July 2006, 8:39

Next thing you know, you’ll set up an auto deposit of $30, and they will take $300, and tell you it was an oversight, and you have to put in a written request for a transfer, send it to Abu Dhabi next day air, and wait until the moon is a quarter full again for the money… No thanks! I can’t take it… Not to mention, as a Black-Owned Business in THAT major market, they should have been ON IT! They needed to have all the “i’s” dotted and all the “t’s” crossed! Spelling is a major thing to me. I try my best to spell check anything that I send. I’m even careful when I IM someone, lol.

  15. Kira, 26 July 2006, 9:46

OK, I finally found it =)

  16. Single Ma, 26 July 2006, 10:47

@ ira - Thanks for the confirmation. A type personalities need a sanity check sometimes.

@ knm - You need to stop making me laugh. People in the office are looking at me funny! When I saw…

“Next thing you know, you’ll set up an auto deposit of $30, and they will take $300, and tell you it was an oversight, and you have to put in a written request for a transfer, send it to Abu Dhabi next day air, and wait until the moon is a quarter full again for the money… No thanks!”

    *dead*

Don’t forget, you gotta send them a DNA sample to verify your race and blood type before they will accept your written request. LMAO!

    @ kira - I knew you’d find it. ;-)

Just curious — would any of you trust this bank with YOUR money?

  17. KNM5683, 26 July 2006, 11:35

I need comedy to cut through the mounds of paperwork on my desk, lol… And to answer your question, I actually tried to open an account with them. I’m always willing to support Black Business. But after all the technical difficulties, I said FORGET IT! Those mitches don’t need my money if I have this much trouble just trying to open a simple account. I didn’t have that trouble with Ing. It was like 1.2.3… Abracadabra… and my account was open. I even use Ing Direct for my investment club bank account. It’s also nice having the sub accounts on there. I’ll take less potential interest earnings over guaranteed headaches ANY DAY!

  18. freedumb, 26 July 2006, 16:01

At first I thought the 0 balance was the problem…

Then I saw the word…Hopefully it’s not misspelled every month!

  19. L. Britt, 26 July 2006, 16:31

I found it! I found it! That is just crazy…especially since it’s not a hard word to spell for goodness’ sake!

I love that “tired of being broke” went to the website when he/she couldn’t read it…go get ‘em, Tiger!

I, too, went to the website before this post went up and it’s a sketchy site. The home page doesn’t fit on a screen so you have to scroll horizontally as well as vertically. That’s just ridiculous.

  20. Single Ma, 26 July 2006, 16:52

@ freedumb - The $0 balance is the best thing about it…NOW. My problems began when it was SUPPOSED to be $10,000! June 23rd (opened acct) thru July 21st (finally received my money back), I earned no interest! Bastids!! I don’t know what the misspelled word is but I hope they don’t send me one every month. Ha!

@ l britt - Tell me about it. Like knm said, maybe their web developers need hooked on phonics. LOL

Yea that was a good move by “tired.” Ms eye spy private eye over there. She’s sharp! Unlike me…all that time I spent trying to load a screen shot, I could’ve directed everyone to the demo. LOL I didn’t claim to be a genius…just fabulous! ;-)

  21. Tazzee, 27 July 2006, 16:57

OK, I never found the word on the demo so I think they fixed it because I am usually good at these things.

    Or, I’m slipping.

LOL @ you not claiming to be a genius, just fabulous!

  22. Single Ma, 27 July 2006, 17:47

@ taz - sry sis but you slipping!

I just checked and it’s still there. LOL

  23. Anonymous, 29 July 2006, 17:23

Dang! I found the error! WOW now thats amazing that they cant spell that!!! I MEAN COME ON!!

  24. Blackhoney, 31 July 2006, 16:51

    Okay, I found it.

Online Statments should be Online Statements.

Has anyone ever thought that it could have been a hacker who’s a computer expert who wants blacks to do as they have always done in the past hundreds of years have trust in someone other than there own. None the less yall just keep your money where it is and lose out. I’ve seen typo’s in letters received from other corperate companies. Even bettter yet you’d probably like doing business with companies who hire people from other countries who can’t speak a bit of english who they direct all your calls to when you call to get info on your account. GET REAL AND GET OVER IT.
I’ll be doing business with them and I’ll be making $$ and you just stay with the bank your with and let them take your $$$
