My Dear Readers…Gotta Luv Anon

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… I absolutely love my readers! The good, the bad, and the ugly. ;-)

My new home problems have not been completely resolved, but they are moving along slowly but surely. I think Monday will be the last day of repairs in my home…thank goodness! I didn’t want to bore you with multiple posts about my drama, so I’ll give you a detailed update when everything is over.

Anyhoo, I was all geared up to check in on my blog family and post a new fabulous financial, but instead, I was temporarily distracted by this lovely comment on one of my previous posts.

Anonymous said…
” I’m also a bad b!tch with the killz to challenge and negate every stereotype associated with the label!”

Interesting post. If you are serious about negating black sterotypes why don’t you try and use proper spelling and not write so “black”. It makes you sound uneducated. Slang is fine in some instances but not when you are trying to convey how financially saavy you are.

May 12, 2006

Don’t you just love anonymous comments? I do! *evil grin*

To that, I say…

anon I appreciate your comment, but it would have held more weight if you hadn’t disguised your identity. Since you’re such an opinionated coward, my first instinct was to delete your comment but I changed my mind and decided to humor you with a response. So what I’m about to say, I want you to read it, comprehend it, and don’t you ever forget it…

Before you try to quote something I’ve said and comment on my “proper” spelling, it would help if you learned how to do a “proper” quote without misspelling words you are attempting to take from a direct quote. It doesn’t take a genius sweetie…just copy and paste. Work on that!

Secondly, the next time you decide to leave a comment on my blog, read for comprehension. It’s fundamental!! I did not say I wanted to negate “black” stereotypes. The actual quote was in reference to the stereotypes and labels of being a SINGLE MOM. For your reading pleasure, I’ve already done it honey. I was a mom at 17, earned a B.S. at 23, an M.B.A. at 27, homeowner/e-fund/investments at 30, upwardly mobile in my career, and a 745 middle credit score to boot. Anyone who reads my blog already knows this. If by chance you missed it, perhaps you should repeat 3rd grade because your comprehension skills are questionable. Now, my goal is to encourage other young, fabulous, and/or single people to do the same, not to impress the likes of you!

Furthermore, I can not and will not stop writing “so black” because I am black. If you hadn’t noticed, I am black and I love it. I embrace my history, my culture, and my lifestyle. My skin tone is revered daily and my culture is always imitated but never duplicated. Don’t hate me because you aint me!

And last but not least, I don’t need you to advise me on how I should write or when it’s appropriate to use slang. “Sounding” uneducated and “being” uneducated are two different things. Check me in the boardroom and I’ll show you the benefits of my MBA. As for “trying to convey how financially savvy” I am, I do not claim to be a financial expert. I only share my [personal] financial choices in an engaging tone that represents my personality. I realize that it’s a complete 180 from the typical run of the mill personal finance language, but there’s enough of that out there. To be honest, I hate it because it’s boring as hell. Being different or going against the grain is called creating a niche. Didn’t you learn that in B school? Or even undergrad? Maybe not. *shrug* Demand a refund! My writing obviously attracted you to my blog, engaged you enough to read the entire post…a very lengthy one might I add, and also hundreds of other daily readers of “Single Ma’s FF.”

So for the record, how I choose to present my blog to the world is a personal preference and it will not change because of your opinion (or anyone else’s for that matter)…well unless you tryna pimp me with some dead presidents (lol). In that case, have your people call my people *wink* Otherwise, I have nothing to prove, so what you see is what you get. And if you don’t like it, then…let me see if I can say this BLACK enough…

GET TA FVCKIN STEPPIN!!

::exhale::

*wavin to everyone else* HEY!! ;-)

Have a fabulous weekend!

Peace & Blessings
~SM

      Holy Smokes! That told them!

Now that that is off your chest – how’s the house? I am anxiously waiting for a list of positives. I know you have gone through a bunch of bad – but I also *Know* you have some good happening within those four walls – so spill! :)

    2. Anonymous, 13 May 2006, 8:16

      A wee bit self-righteous.

SM, you most certainly told Anon. A word of warning from someone who’s been there: be careful about getting into blog/comment fights. Anon is using his/her cowardice to piss you off and is probably enjoying it. If that person doesn’t have the guts to even come up with a blogsphere name, then you really don’t have anything to prove to him/her.

On another matter, why can’t someone who’s financially saavy use slang? Anon is clearly assuming that someone who can use ebonics can’t be financially savvy. Damn, there are some IG’NANT folks out there.

You need to chill out woman! (Oh crap, forgot to change to anon mode. Just kidding…)

Interesting post. The fact that there’s so much variation in language, style, and content is what makes the PF blogging community so great.

      Single Ma–YOU GO GIRL!!!

Anon–You are so ignant! If you don’t like what you read here, there’s a big red ‘X’ at the top right hand corner of your screen. USE IT!!!!

      hehehehhe!

I received one of those “stop sounding so black” messages in my inbox about 2 weeks ago and it provided me with a nice chuckle.

*shrug*– Oh well, like Mary J. Blige says “YOU CAN HATE IT OR LOVE IT!”

*snicker* you’ve got to love the “bold” folks who love to be anonymous. LOL those are the same folks who talk trash about the boss under their breath or will talk about you when you turn your back. Anonymous folks should man(woman) up and reveal themselves…guarantee that they are probably a daily reader without courage ;-) keep doing your thang (yes anon that is slang too)

    8. JLP, 14 May 2006, 4:59

Funny how anonymous comments are almost always rude. I also love how they come on YOUR blog and try to tell you what to do with YOUR blog. Blogging is a personal thing. A blogger should be allowed to write in any manner they see fit. If the reader doesn’t like it, they DON’T HAVE TO READ IT!

Whew! It feels good to get that OFF MY CHEST!

      Happy Mothers Day!

I’m with JLP, just ignore the anonymous bugger. They aren’t worth the time. Of course, you know me, I do get irritated with those anonymous commenters, so I know it’s kind of hard to blow them off.

But you definitely bust the prevailing stereotype about single mothers. Good for you! (Now how is that house coming along? I hope you had a good Mother’s Day in your new place.)

    10. Tazzee, 14 May 2006, 18:46

I’m glad you let that poster have it. I too get sick and tired of folks trying to equate what we may say or write in our personal lives with how educated we are. The beauty of it is we can switch it up whenever we want.

    11. CollegeGrad, 14 May 2006, 20:39

@ Tazzee– “The beauty of it is we can switch it up whenever we want.”

      Exactly.

(whoops– please edit for me Single Ma)

    12. MsJayy, 14 May 2006, 20:45

Ain’t that about a blip? Sis, continue to do you…in whatever language or ’slanguage’ you choose. And how exactly does one ‘write’ black? And is there a committee who determines what writings are ‘too black’? Do we all get to vote or just the anonymous among us? SMH

    13. chelle, 15 May 2006, 7:10

I guess you read that Anon!

    14. Cocoa Girl, 15 May 2006, 13:24

      Been there; done that.

If I can abandon my college educated-ness for a moment (hehehe), I think MJB said it best…

      ‘HATERATION!’

      LOL

BTW, I sho can’t wait til you back to posting, Miss Single…

    15. Debt Hater, 16 May 2006, 7:15

That just means your popular and well-read enough to have HATERS! I can’t stand the whole this is black and but this isn’t black business. It’s like Cicely Tyson said in the Women of Brewster Place: “Black is just black” and however we represent it, live it, love it, hate it, enjoy it, use it and on.
And PS — I too would advise you not to get into comment battles, I’ve seen them turn ugly and they only hurt the blogger because we don’t know who the cowardly anon commenter is.

    16. Single Ma, 16 May 2006, 8:17

LOL y’all are crazy! I wouldn’t call it arguing…trust me. I said what I had to say and that’s all there is to it.

LMAO @ anon. Self-righteous is “exhibiting self-assurance, professing or exhibiting a strict, traditional sense of virtue and morality, commendable, worthy…” so I would have to agree. ;-)

      Happy Tuesday!!

    17. onecoolhoney, 16 May 2006, 9:24

That had to be the WEAKEST attempt at hatin’ I have seen in a long time. How pathetic was that!? Ah well…as Kanye said it, “there’ll always be haters, that’s the way it is. Hater n***as marry hater b|tches and have hater kids!” And of course they must do what they do best! I personally love our slang and how you lace it with your own personal style (er um, steelo), flavor (flava), and knowledge to make a potentially boring topic so much more interesting.

Anyway, hope you had a great mother’s day in your new house!!
