Nice Girls Don’t Get Rich

Well isn’t that a f%ckin coincidence cuz nice girls can’t keep a man either. (LMAO! anotha post for anotha day!)

Unfortunately, this is true (well, the rich part anyway LOL). “Nice Girls Don’t Get Rich” (by Lois P. Frankel) is the title of a book I just finished reading. I really enjoyed this book because it’s not plastered with run of the mill financial advice, nor does it gas your head up with get rich quick schemes. Instead, it gives you insight into the way most women think about money and the mistakes many of us tend to make with our money.

Have you ever wondered (yea here I go with my questions again LOL) why men earn more than women? Or why there are more male CEOs in Fortune 500 companies than there are women? Or why little boys are taught to suck it up and be a man while little girls are told it’s ok to cry? Or why little boys are taught the value of money early while little girls are taught to cook and clean (JLP over at AllThingsFinancial almost got it for this one…until I realized his babygirl is barely 2 yrs old LOL)? Or why men are revered when they stand firm (big ups to my man Randal for “this is the Apprentice not the Apprenti” HAHAHA) but a woman is called a b!tch if she does the same thing?

I’m not saying this book answers all of those questions, but it does hit on the different ways boys and girls are raised, which are attributed to the way we think, the way we carry ourselves in the office, the way men view us, the way we view ourselves, and finally, the way we think about money. The most important concepts I took away from this book were…

  1. How to be a b!tch (LOL I’m just kidding)

No seriously, it encourages you to…

  1. Believe in yourself and trust your intuition
  2. Take charge of your finances
  3. Ask questions if you don’t understand
  4. Ask for what you want
  5. Realize the power of negotiations (also mentioned in my post here)
  6. Never be solely dependent on any one person (even if you’re married)
  7. Have your own money and your own credit (even if you’re married)

…and lots of other things. I loved it because it’s a very empowering book. It also talks about spending wisely, saving and investing, but most importantly, it forces you to change the way you think about money. It’s one thing to be beautiful woman, but so are 9,999,999 other women in the world. Let’s be beautiful AND financially fabulous!! I encourage you to check it out. My copy came from the local library, but you can also get a used one from amazon.com for about 5 bucks.

We can do this ladies! Stop being a nice girl and handle yo’ bit-neeeess!! Be like a Luda and tell ole’ boi who got that promotion you wanted to move b!tch, get out the waaaaaaay!!! LMAO!

HAPPY THURSDAY Y’ALL!!

Peace & Blessings

Wow!!! I really liked each and every word from this blog message.
Let me tell you first who I am , I am a male. I have been asking my wife to build her own courage, career, ability to stand individually, self dependancy(not that I cant survive her, but I want her to live and give life to our babies even If I am no more if happens.) I dont want her to look at odd ends for her survival.

I guess this is one more trial that I can try, giving her this book, I am gonna get it ASAP and give her, lets see if she get some more courage and get it built..

      Thanks for your blog message..

      Am I first?!?!

Wonderful post. I am a firm believer in going against the grain. I once read somewhere that 75 percent of women never negotiate beyond the first offer, while the number drops below 50% for men.

      WTF?!?!!?

I don’t think so! I might have to pick up a copy of that book – AT THE LOCAL LIBRARY – because girly is all about being fabulous and saving a dollar!

sree Welcome to my spot! I’m glad you like what I have to say. Go get the book from the library. I’m sure your wife will enjoy it.

cocoa Off by 2 minutes (lol). I didn’t realize the value of negotiations until I started doing it professionally. Now it’s become second nature. A lot of people cringe at the thought of it because they assume negotiations are stressful, but it’s all about approach and your ability to persuade. Like they say, “you can’t get what you don’t ask for.” Not only can negotiating save you money, but it MAKES you money too!

You are already a fabulous chic! Add money to the mix then you’ll be fierce!! LOL

JLP I was just teasing. I know you will. :-)

Whew… I was worried that you were going to kick my…, which would be easy for you to do since I was taught to never hit a woman.

      Fun times…

      Aww..shucks, thanks!

Well, you will be proud to know that I have taken advantage of a gym membership discount through my company. I get waaaaay more options and it’s nearly $25 less per month (other folks pay twice as much for the same thing).

Now, the extra funds can cover another newly added expense called Miss Alexa Lenox and her cat food.

BTW, she is very much acting like a pet (and brat!) nowadays. Always trying to rub up on me for some wet food! So conniving. Wonder where she got it?
