Expense Review – "Touch It, Bring It…
…babe, watch it, turn it, leave it, stop, format it”
Is it just me or is this song HOT or what? I don’t particularly care for the lyrics but the beat is off the chain! I wish I knew how to load videos on my blog cuz I’d listen to that joint everyday. Busta Bus impressed me again. I heard he’s working on a remix featuring Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, DMX, Lloyd Banks, Rha Digga and Papoose. Whew! That’s a lot of talent lined up. The new video is scheduled to premier on Monday.
Anyhoo, Single Ma is feelin good today and still ridin that money train. I’m on a natural high y’all! So I wanted to “touch it, bring it…” with something new on the blog today.
I’m sure it’s no so surprise when I tell you that I track every dime I spend from month to month, then from year to year. Well, as I was reconciling my February expenses, I noticed a category that was GROSSLY over budget (I use the term loosely). So I went back to January expenses and there it was again, not as much as February but still over…umm…spent (yea that’s a betta word). Out of curiosity, I reviewed the 2005 average to determine why I set the bar so low for 2006. I figured there had to be a good reason, right? HA! NOT!
What I discovered is ya girl got issues! Why on earth would any person in their right mind (I don’t claim to be sane, just fabulous) spend over $300 a month, every month, on grooming and personal expenses? Ok, let me ‘xplain. You see, what had happened was… Aww shyt, let me stop cuz I aint got no excuse. I just love to pamper myself, get manis & pedis, buy smell goods, skin moisturizers, and keep my hair did…I mean done. What’s a girl to do? I love myself. When I look good and smell good, I feel good. What Diddy say in that Proactiv commercial…I gotta preserve my sexy (lol). It’s a small price to pay for being fabulous. :-)
And guess what else I found out? The increase was not my fault at all (lesson for today – always find a way to blame someone else LOL). You see, there’s this little person that lives with me. I don’t know where she comes from but she keeps calling me mom and people keep saying she looks just like me. Now the last time I checked, my child was a cute little girl with pony tails and carrying a Hello Kitty book bag. This person is a young lady who refuses to wear ponytails and seems to think that she’s supposed to have everything I have. When I get a mani & pedi – she wants one too, if I buy a new body spray – she wants the kiddie version, when I go to the salon – she wants to go too! So that’s why my personal expenses went UP instead of DOWN! I mean, who does she think she is? Ugh, I’m not ready for this teenager stuff! I still don’t believe she’s mine, but I love her to pieces anyway. :-)
Happy Thursday ya’ll! When you get in your car for lunch or on ya way home, if “Touch It” comes on, bump it loud for ya girl!
Peace & Blessings

Hahaha…I like the song too. The beat is hot!
Girl, work those manis and pedis. Too bad they cost so much in DC area though. Have ya’ll gotten those $25 places yet???
Yea we have ‘em but I wouldn’t even take Precious [my dog] there. What I really wish we’d get is one of those Dominican shops so I can get a doobie wrap for $10. Girl NYC may be expensive to live, but it does have its perks. LOL
Girl you shouldnt feel bad about spending that on yourself ! Shit you gotta live right ! the fact that you have saved like you have and are as disciplined gives you the right – when I catch up with my bills I am gonna start to schedule a monthly spa day – keep the nails did and all ..
and your right when you look good you feel better.. i want to start keeping my hair did ..but with this “mixed hair” what they call good hair HAHA..it wont hold no damn styles..
but i can rock a ponytail like no other and everyone thinks it my hair too !!!
Rock ya ponytail girl. It’s all good! LOL
hehehehe amazing how when we track it we realize just how much it REALLY costs…but it costs to be beautiful *smile* As single moms, we get so use to spending on others that we often feel guilty when we spend on us….you have nothing to feel guilty about.
the personal grooming is expensive! i have cut down on the mani pedi’s to every three weeks instead of every two weeks, although I still get my hair done every week.
I feel like it’s a balancing act, trying to save where you can and look good!
loving your blog by the by!
Hey SM! If you want to link to videos on your blog, check out youtube.com — if the video is there, they have a small snippet of code you can paste into your post that embeds the video on your site, but serves it from youtube. Check out the Busta video here and down at the bottom you can grab the code for “embeddable player” (just turn off the error reporting when posting on blogger so it goes through.
Have fun with it! Looking forward to more beats like this ;)
mz i used to feel guilty about spending money on myself, but not anymore. shoot, i work hard and i deserve it! when cash flow is short, i do make sure my babygirl gets hers first though.
